Goa....an outstanding beach destination situated in Konkan mountain range. Located along the Arabian Sea, Panaji is the capital city whereas Vasco da Gama is the largest city. Margao, the administrative headquarter of South Goa still exhibits the cultural influence of Portugal. Portuguese were the first foreigner invaders to land here as merchants in the early 16th century and then conquered it soon thereafter. It was under their rule for 450 years until annexed by India in 1961.
Though mainly tagged as a beach destination, Goa has a lot more to its potential. It has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity parks. Old Churches, Portuguese architecture are the main attractions of Goa. Goa is divided in to two parts i.e. North Goa and South Goa.
South Goa is slightly a calm and cool place with less people and activities. And so, it is much preferred over North Goa by the tourists on a laid back vacation. Most of the luxury hotels of Goa are located in this region, however, options of budget and mid- budgets hotels are available here. Mobor is the main beach of South Goa and the best place for water sport activities.
North Goa is just the contrast of the other side. Crowded but still very lively. It is flanked by the people who are here to enjoy the lifestyle of Goa which is fun loving, refreshing and full of life. This side too has many hotels ranging from Luxury to Budget. Homestays are also quite popular among the tourists and the friendly nature of Goan people actually make it feel at home. The main beaches are- Calangute, Anjuna, Candolim etc.
The food is mainly the fusion of Portugese and Goan cuisine. The people here relishes sea food and a Goan cuisine is incomplete without fish. For vegans as well there is a variety of dishes as Goa shares its border with the state of Karnataka, where most of the people still prefer vegetarian food.. Some of the vegetarian cuisine which one must try are Dali-Thoy, varieties of Ghashi, Ambaat, Sukke etc.
